So, you want to play Madoka mode but you don't know how to? Or maybe you don't know exactly what this mode is? It could be you just need a refresher, and that's fine too. In any case, I'm here to guide you in understanding it.
Let's start by introducing you to the basic concept. You can go here to find out more about the anime the mode is based off of. But besides that, the round will be about Kyubey, the Incubator, making contracts with students to make them into Mahous (Either Puers or Puellas, boys and girls respectively), so that they can kill any Witches inside of the school. There's also the issue of the depressed student, who usually ends up spawning a Witch if they are not helped out early on.
Now that you know the premise, let's get into the roles.
Kyubey, the Incubator: Got chosen as QB, eh.. good for you. It's up to you now to make contracts with whatever gender student is selected at game start. All you want to do is make peoples wishes come true. Oh, and make them fall into despair so you can collect their emotional energy and fight off the universe's entropy problem. Probably not a good idea to tell people that part, though.
Mahou: Whether you're the original or a newly contracted Mahou, your job is to fight and defeat Witches, save the depressed student from their grief if you can, and try not to give in to despair yourself. You most likely made a wish to attain this role, and if so, it's also likely that it's something important to you. Keep that in mind in your roleplay, and keep an eye on Kyubey.
Depressed Student: For some reason, you feel really, really sad. You're not very excited about anything, nor can you find much reason to go on living. A grief is building up inside you, and it'll soon take over, transforming you into a deadly Witch. But you don't know that, all you care about is your personal sorrows.
Okay, onto details.
Ability-wise, Kyubey can change form, back-and-forth between innocent QB and a normal student, make contracts, and stare into your soul with those enormous eyes. It can also only be seen and heard in it's QB form by those who have experienced magic in some way.
Mahous have soul gems, which contain their souls and tell them how much grief they've accumulated. They also have a unique weapon, which they use to kill the witch or attack others, the ability to share their magic with others, which allows those people to see Witches and Kyubey, and lastly, a verb command called 'cleanse' which allows the Mahou to take all of one person's grief onto themselves, effectively 'cleansing' that person.
Depressed Students have no special abilities, other than turning into a Witch when they die.
As a bonus, here are some statistics:
A Depressed Student dies from autosuiciding in about thirty minutes real time if not helped.
Witches either choose to follow a random student or pick a random direction to float in, and teleport every 30-90 seconds.
The gender that Kyubey can make contracts with is random, and is always the same gender of the original Mahou.
There are five different Mahou types, which all come with their own unique weapons, with the exception of theHomura-chan Time Stop Mahou, who can freeze time, but must improvise with the weapons found in the school.
If a Mahou becomes seperated from their soul gem, they die, but if their soul gem comes into close proximity once more, they revive.
