BOOM! TWANG!
“T-Taiyo!”
“Mother? What’s wrong?”
“TAIYO!”
“I can’t hear you! Mo-Mother!”
“TAI--”
“MOTHER! WHERE ARE YOU!?”
------
The girl with brown hair stared ahead of her at the road that was pale from the sun's rays. Her glimmering pyrite-colored eyes seemed to show light interest in what was ahead of her. She put on a light smile, stepping forward once the light turned green on that post stamped into the sidewalk. The area wasn't busy-it was just a starting day, really. Early in the morning, the sun was just barely out, and clouds were white and fluffy.
Taiyo was planning on walking to school all by herself! She was so proud, really. Her Mother even gave her a little cell phone in order to make sure that she was safe. She went through all of the procedures for it, as well.
Her mind went through many ideas as she crossed the sidewalks and passed by small business buildings and a small group of houses. So quiet, today was.
She was going to be picked up after school, though. Her mother and herself were planning on going out for dinner afterwards. She really loved doing things with her mother-it was always so much fun!
“Meow~”a light purr emitted from a nearby bush. Taiyo paused, turning her head and watching a black cat scamper out. She giggled, walking over to pet it. The cat stared up at her, purring and swishing its tail side to side. Picking it up, she continued walking. The feline didn’t mind, it was rather content.
“I want to take you to class!”Taiyo cheered happily, giggling while petting the cat’s head. She passed by an apartment building nearby the school and stopped in front of the small learning centre. Sighing, she placed the cat back down and ran her hand along the creature’s soft fur. “Uh-I’ll come play with you later! Look out for the red car!”She said to the cat, waving her hand. The cat blinked at her as she ran into the school.
The cat innocently scampered away without another word, disappearing down the sidewalk.
------------
“--It’s really nice, too!” Taiyo chatted with her friend as she exited the school. She just smiled brightly at the girl with golden-orange hair, feeling uplifted slightly by her presence. This girl was really nice-what was her name again? She didn’t even know her very well, yet she felt like a friend! Oh well.
“Ah, I hope to see you later, Taiyo-chan,”The other, slightly older girl said with a smile. She waved, turning and walking away without another word, disappearing after rounding a corner. Taiyo waved after her, before turning her head to walk over and try to find her mother’s car.
It wasn’t hard to find it. It was sunny out, so the bright red of the small car easily stood out to her. Though, there were clouds building. Hopefully, they would get home before a storm hit. A grin pulled at her lips, and she waved a hand over while walking. She popped open the backseat door and hopped in, making sure to strap herself in. Shutting the door, she said hello to her mother, who replied. They went on with the usual routine of asking how school was, how the day went. It was all routine, and Taiyo wouldn’t have it any other way.
As the car started, Taiyo shifted uncomfortably. To be honest, she didn’t really like cars all that much. She would much rather walk everywhere, but the car stuff was much easier to get to places with! She just didn’t really like the feel of sitting in one, she guessed. It was silly of her, right?
“Where are we going, Mother?”She asked with that smile still on her face.
“I was thinking of that new cake café in the rural area,”Her mother smiled back, pushing brunette hair behind the small girl’s ear. The woman then turned and moved the car off to their destination.
She turned her head to stare out of the window as they drove. Her town was just beginning to industrialize. There were poles for electricity, and a single tower. She was always intimidated by the height, but she found them to be something like guardians. After all, they kept things running, didn’t they?
Soon enough, they drove up to the café. It was small, but it seemed to be charming, and it had a few cars there already. Wasn’t cake technically a bad dinner? Oh well! She loved sweet things. Unstrapping herself and forcing the door open, she hopped out and stretched her arms. She heard a chuckle emanating from her mother as she did the same thing.
“Come on, Taiyo,”Her mother walked towards the entrance, going to take her daughter’s hand.
‘Meow’
Taiyo stopped, turning her head towards the sound. She looked back at her mother, giving a smile. She pointed away and told her mother she would be right there. She was a big girl, she promised she would be right back. Her mother, of course, all trusting, nodded and agreed to wait by the table for her.
The small girl walked over to where she heard the purr, leaning over a bush and finding a white cat that was strangely ghostly but very rare. She giggled. Two cats in one day! She went to reach a hand out, only for the cat to sprint away. It headed away from the café, making almost no sound.
“H-hey, wait up!”She yelled, running after it. She just wanted to pet it! The cat was so fast, too. She continued to run off, soon forgetting that she was return to the café.
The cat had run into an empty field, the only real structures being large electric poles with connecting wires. The rest was empty waves of grass. Taiyo dived forward, tackling the cat and rolling. The cat had given up, pawing at her face as if to say that she had won. The little girl popped back up, holding the cat up like a trophy.
She stared past the cat, noting the darkening clouds. With a frown, she glanced around, noting that she was quite a ways away. She felt so strangely lonely in the tumbling grass field. Ah-her mother would be mad that she was so late, though. She should really get walking back, huh?
About half-way there, she felt the winds increasing, and loud thunder clapping. She frowned, hunching her shoulders and holding the cat closer. She really was regretting leaving the café, now. It was getting really dark, too.
Rinnnng! Rinnnng!
Taiyo stopped, hearing her cellphone beginning to go off. She reached with one hand to take the device out of her pocket, flipping the blue machinery open and putting it to her ear.
“Taiyo Kagami,”She offered to the caller. She heard a panicked voice on the other end. There was a lot of background noise, as well, as if everyone over there was panicked.
“I regret the power of technology. "
“T-Taiyo, sweety, where are you? You need to get back here, now!” It was the voice of her mother, and she sounded so incredibly desperate.
“Huh? O-oh, I’m coming soon, Mother! Don’t worry, I--”Taiyo cringed as static suddenly invaded the call. She grimaced,”Mother?”
“T-taiyo!” Her mother’s voice called out once more, being overpowered by static. Now, she sounded desperate.
“...Mother, what’s wrong?”She asked, her voice increasing in worry. The cat in her arms began to wrestle, and with her mind clouded, it easily slipped out of her grasp and landed upon her feet.
“Taiyo!”
“Mother, I can’t understand you!” Taiyo yelled, hoping that it would get through.
The line went dead, a long beep indicating this. She frowned, stuffing the thing into her pocket. Another loud sound crackled above her, and a loud TWING! intercepted her thoughts. She slowly glanced upwards, noting that one of the large electric poles was now sparking.
"I regret the power of anything."
She stepped backwards, eyes widening. The poles began to tilt and fall, one after the other. She looked all around momentarily, before noticing one thing. They were falling in the direction of the Café. That’s where her mother is! No!
Taiyo sprinted off, attempting to make it towards the small building. The sky was almost as dark as night, and she didn’t notice the rain now pelting her hair and her uniform. She was too occupied by the sparking of the electricity and the great power of the winds, the great strength of the flames erupting around her as she attempted to maneuver around them. It didn't matter-the rain would put fires like that out, right?
“Mother!”She screamed as she neared,”Where are you!?”
She failed to notice the last electric pole nearby falling forward next to her. She failed to notice that it was going to break into that building.
She failed to notice that the building would then explode.
"I wish...they didn’t affect my life.”
The last thing she saw was fire.
--------------------------------
“--Thunder storm. The lightning had caused the electricity to go out for two weeks!”
“That isn’t the only thing. In the rural part of town, a small, new opening café had been hit by one of the stray poles that coursed with electricity and loose lightning.”
“Oh gosh, were they okay?”
“I heard almost everyone died! The entire building blew up!”
“Who lived?”
“Some girl with silver hair…”
“T-Taiyo!”
“Mother? What’s wrong?”
“TAIYO!”
“I can’t hear you! Mo-Mother!”
“TAI--”
“MOTHER! WHERE ARE YOU!?”
