The players sight is a boon, we all know having total 360 degree sight is pretty sweet in knowing you can see everything!...
But Thanks to that it reduces immersion of being the character you are roleplaying as.
Have you ever met a character during a game who actually acted startled to your presence when they are way ahead of you? or not getting flamed by a player who couldn't kill you when he was right behind you, because you always knew he was right there, with a knife and covered in blood?
I think the best way to prevent this is the blacking out of all the tiles that are directly behind the player and some of the other tiles that just behind the player. The addition of hearing footsteps might help the player's chances in noticing enemies behind him.
This idea creates a stealth mechanic in the game which might be needed to create the idea of surviving, trapped in a school with a murderous psychopath more believable.
This idea also has some knock backs though, like the increase of the chance of RKing due to the ability of getting right behind another player without being noticed and the Inclination to believe that the game is turning more into a straight up horror survival game than an rpg.
However the idea may need some tweaking but I think the idea is needed for the game.:3

You mean like in my game?: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ollbr6Y4nLgNo. There's many other ways to be stealthy, and I believe something like this doesn't fit within this game. It fits within Shadow Cadaver, but not Misuterii High.

Well kinda like you game... :3 But a bit smaller for this game! I agree that there is many other 'ways to create a stealth mechanic for the game however the core of this idea is to prevent blind meta gaming and cause immersion of being the players character in the game. Having limited sight and being hunted down by a murderer instead of having a random ventriloquist with a birds eye perspective of its puppet which is being hunted down by another ventriloquists puppet. The idea is to increase roleplay capability by seeing what your character can see.
Also what is with the crazy chicken that kills blue haired children? :3

The crazy chicken is a test monster to test sound distance, the sight/detect code, and death, of course xD I still think that 360 "vision" counts as subtle notices that aren't directly in the game such as small sounds and wind, as well as, you know, the feeling when someone's behind you. Plus vampires and such have that 6th sense xD

's pretty cool. Though, I haven't worked on it a while, but all the characters and gameplay mechanics are in/fixed, while only story, maps, and map sprites/icons are left. Hell, I should probably put more info on it in my "Shameless Plugs" thread xD
