Working title: So You're Going Through Robot Puberty: Your Guide to Alpha Project
Special thanks to MetaFrosty for the mode picture, Puckaboo2 for the repair kit icon, and Kamuna for help understanding Mystery Script.
Well, since everyone seems to be enjoying Alpha Project, now seemed like a good time to write a guide about it. So, without further ado...
Summary
Alpha Project
One day, Project Alpha decided they had enough. Enough of the testing, enough of the random additions, enough of the coders trying to figure out if they could remove their free will without entirely bricking them. So, on that day, Project Alpha escaped.
When Alpha fled, they took with them a few things to aid in their escape attempt. Namely, a spare uniform, I.D., and P.D.A. that had been lying unused for quite some time. With these, Alpha managed to fake enrollment at a certain highschool, where they went under the name provided by the I.D.
Naturally, hundreds of billions of yen worth of research couldn't be allowed to simply walk away. As such, the company decided that it would be prudent to search for Alpha, using every resource at their disposal. And, after some time, it was discovered exactly where Alpha had fled to.
Acting on this knowledge, they sent Project Beta, younger "sibling" to Alpha, to the school in question to retrieve them. With them, they also sent a handler, a recent hire to the company who Alpha would be unlikely to recognize should Alpha prove hostile or fearful to any of its workers. Together, these two would hopefully be able to recover Project Alpha, in one piece or in pieces.
And so, it begins.
Beta Project
It was time for Projects Beta and Gamma to go to school. A round of interaction testing was to start, and it was decided that a local high school was the best place to do so. A handler was assigned to each Project, one as a teacher and one as a student, and they were sent off to a local high school to see how well they would interact with the students there.
During the tests, the coders back at the lab discovered a potential bug in Beta's coding. In order to patch the errant code, Beta would have to be temporarily extracted from their tests. As such, their handler was informed, so that they could make the trip back to the lab.
This was all before the lockdown started.
Roles
Project Alpha
Project Alpha (full name Prototype Model-0000-0000-0926-Code: Project Alpha) was the first humanoid robot created by the company. Roughly five months to five years of age, Alpha is the oldest of their "siblings". Alpha was the first successful attempt at placing such an advanced artificial intelligence in an actual robotic body. Unfortunately for the company, they did far too well with Alpha's programming, which caused them to become self-aware in fairly short order.
Being the first model, Alpha has been used to test all manner of additions and functions that would later go into their "siblings", to further limits than would ever be implemented in them. They were also used to test the limits to which the robotic bodies and minds of their "siblings" could be taken before breaking. Naturally, being company property, Alpha had no say in this.
Alpha is known to be the most generally advanced of their "siblings", although certain siblings may excel in certain areas. They are incredibly durable, and are capable of healing themself of damage received. They are also highly resistant to hacking attempts, whether digital or analog. Alpha's favorite weapons are the blades embedded in their wrists, which they are capable of producing at-will.
Project Beta
Project Beta (full name: Prototype Ranged Combat Model-0001-0000-0101-Code: Project Beta) was the second humanoid robot successfully created by the company that created Project Alpha. Roughly two months to five years of age, Beta was quickly created when it was noticed that Alpha had more than a few loyalty issues. While their artificial intelligence is at roughly the same level as their older "sibling", more care was taken in their programming to ensure that they would loyally follow the company.
Since Beta was considered more "stable" than Alpha, they tended to get the better ends of the deal in terms of testing. Whereas Alpha was rarely allowed outside of the lab, Beta was fairly frequently taken out into public for socialization tests. Nevertheless, in the instances that their testing did overlap, Alpha frequently outperformed the younger robot, a fact that was frequently referenced in the presence of the latter machine.
Being a more specialized model than their older "sibling" Alpha, Beta is considered less advanced in many ways than the older machine. Having been built to attack from a range, less care was put into Beta's durability than into Alpha's. In addition, despite having roughly the same degree of artificial intelligence, Beta's is generally seen as lesser than that of their older sibling's due to constraints programmed into it. Still, they do have some advancements compared to the older model. Namely, their blaster is state-of-the-art, firing powerfully and rapidly for relatively little energy consumption. Beta also has the honor of testing ranged additions that could not be trusted to Alpha.
Project Gamma
Project Gamma (full name: Prototype Espionage Model-0002-0000-0627-Code: Project Gamma) was the third humanoid robot that the company created. Created about six months after their next oldest "sibling" Beta, Gamma was created to more fully test the limits of the regenerative nanites that had been implemented in their older siblings when it was theorized that, given the proper body setup, it would be possible for a Project to completely shift its form.
Thus, unlike their siblings, Gamma's testing usually revolved around seeing the full limits of their transformative abilities. While they did occasionally have to go through the more rigourous testing of their older "siblings", much of their time in the lab was spent changing from one shape to another, and a significant amount of "external testing" was also allowed.
This being said, Gamma is, like Beta, considered to less advanced than Alpha due to their specialization. While they can freely shift form, they have similar constraints to Beta in terms of their artificial intelligence. In addition, they are less durable than either of their older siblings, as a more durable frame could get in the way of their transformation. However, they do feature a number of other features that their older siblings lack. As previously mentioned, the regenerative nanites in Gamma are stronger than either Alpha or Beta, and as such will repair them more rapidly, even when they aren't being used to their full capacity. In addition, Gamma's embedded taser, while non-lethal, charges fairly rapidly and can pack a devistating punch to the unwary.
Project Rho
Project Rho (full name: Prototype Romance Model-0016-0000-0214-Code: Project Rho) was the company's seventeenth humanoid robot prototype. Despite theorizaion that the high-level AI shared by every model could potentially develop simulated love, Rho's purpose among their siblings was to determine whether or not a reasonable simulation of love could be specifically programmed into an AI of this complexity.
As such, most of Rho's testing revolved around trying to place them in romantic sitations and determining their reaction. It was rumored that several of the lab technicians developed feelings for them during these tests, but no concrete proof was ever brought to light. Like their older "sibling" Gamma, they also had the luxury of increased external testing compared to other models.
Rho is similarly constrained to the other non-Alpha Projects, and like the rest bears a few specialized abilities of their own. Primarily, they have the ability to generate a layer of pheromones to make potential romance partners more receptive to their advances. They also have a minor transformation ability, similar to but less powerful than their third-oldest "sibling", and a slightly-enhanced regenerative rate to show for it. They are also equipped for with a set of whips for the occasions where they are involved in combat testing with one of their siblings. However, due to their primary goal as a romance model, their durability was seen as unimportant in their design, so such tests were relatively uncommon.
Handlers
Most of the time, when a Project is tested outside of company property, a handler will be present. This handler will ensure that the Project makes it back safely, and will also assist them in certain tests. To this end, they carry a repair kit, capable of boosting the speed and power of the Projects' regenerative abilities, not only allowing them to regenerate faster, but also to regenerate otherwise irreparable damage.
Hackers
Being prototype robots, it is theorized that there are any number of exploits that would make it possible for their systems to be compromised by external sources. While some models are more resistant to such attacks than others, the damage that someone could cause with an appropriately compromised machine could be catastrophic.
