The door swung open wide, revealing a 6"2' mass of muscle- not literally! A quite large man stopped just inside the door, covered in black leather. A quick glance would gleam the fact that he had ordinary tools- screwdrivers, saws, etc- in his belt... along with a butcher's knife. One couldn't see the... person's?... face due to a mask that seemed to be imposed over leather straps that wrapped around his head and chin tightly. The most disturbing part was that he was filthy. Dried splotches of feces, blood, and other materials were easily discernible.
The silence remained for about four seconds as the two gazed at eachother-
And then the thing gave a low-pitched yelp as it began to take run forward, grabbing at the handle of the previously-mentioned butcher knife within it's second step.

It took two of those four seconds for Joseph to distinguish the person in front of him being a person and not a monster. The other two were saved for the relief to come. Finally, a person! He could hardly care less if he--
"W-wait, no, don't!" He yelped, going to quickly take a step back and then, trying to find a place to run.

The man-thing-monster??? quickly picked up speed as it approached, the dominant arm that wielded the butcher knife raised as it did so.
There was only one direction to to in- and in that direction was two hallways, with two empty rooms and a door with with a slide-off lock at the end.
Precious seconds blew away like stones raining down from a toppling tower.

He hadn't really learned to run very much. Much to his surprise, he was decent at running when running for his life instead of a simple evening stroll. He barely thought as he ran off to, quickly taking a turn towards where he saw the door with the lock at the end.
Maybe it was unlocked! The guy was much too tall in comparison to himself, he could never outrun him, after all.
"Uh-Please don't hurt me! Uh--My limbs are too not-special!"He yelped while scrambling off.

The door at the end of the hall opened easily, revealing a passage perpendicular to Joseph's. To his left, a staircase going down into darkness. To the right, a staircase leading up to a door. Right before him, a door that appeared to be locked.
Who knew what was in the dark to the left or if the door to the right was unlocked!?

Oh good, it was open! Joseph continued to run, looking all around. If that door up to the stairs was locked, he would probably die, but then there could be the same for the one below, he just couldn't see it!
Not knowing what to do, he simply took a turn to the right, hoping not to trip up the stairs as he did, reaching for the door.

The door at the top of the stairs was another bolt - lock one that opened smoothly. However, upon opening the door... well. Hell was revealed.
Blood in various forms of decay caked in puddles or as stains on the walls and floor. A comfortable 20 meter by 20 meter by 6 meter room. Full of various amounts of equipment in one corner while corpses remained hung from corpses, their liquid life trickling into buckets beneath them.
And there were no other doors.
The pursuing beast reached the bottom of the stairs, hoarsely huffing as it continued after Joseph!

The first thing that Joseph coherently did was scream bloody murder. He felt absolutely sick. It took only another second for him to realize that there was no way to escape from this room, too. He jumped at the sound of someone coming up the stairs, turning around and remembering-OH YEAH! Someone with a type of cleaver was trying to chop him into bits!
He took a step back, into the bloody room. What could he do? Maybe if he was lucky, he could shove the guy back, No, he wasn't strong enough. He held his breath, turning and going to run back into the room. His clothes were dark enough, and there didn't seem to be a type of light in here. Maybe he could hide, somewhere.
